From director Olivier Assayas, the creator behind Personal Shopper (2016) and Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), comes this deeply personal film about his experiences during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, when borders were closed. Brothers Paul, a filmmaker, and Etienne, a music journalist, live in a country house near their childhood home in Normandy, cut off from the outside world with their respective partners. The two brothers, so different from each other, clash at every turn, but Paul’s heart softens when he walks through his old neighborhood and encounters the nature that responds honestly to the changing seasons. The paintings of David Hockney, an artist he admires, also inspire him during the pandemic. This time of disconnection from people but reconnection with nature, a time that makes him look back rather than forward, must be very important to him, and to Olivier Assayas himself as well.
