Selected by a jury of citizen critics from the Busan Cinematheque, the Citizen Critics' Award is given to a Korean film that shows exceptional promise from the Vision section. The director of the winning work is awarded KRW 10,000,000 to support their next production. The cash prize is sponsored by Busan Cinema Center.
BALER achieves a striking harmony between rural life and cinematic form by focusing on climatic responses rather than explicitly surfacing narrative conflicts or character relationships. Minimizing dramatic friction and narrative, the film evokes profound emotion through repetitive, mechanical movements. Rather than relying on straightforward explanations, it unfolds the rhythm of daily labor and existence through objects, space, and movement. For constructing such a singular cinematic universe, we proudly present this award to BALER.
